1:4:9 is perhaps Nemesis' most ambient album to date, and a perfect companion and counterpoint to their other release in 2010, Gigaherz. The album was composed between 2003 - 2009 by Joni Virtanen, Jyrki Kastman and Ami Hassinen, but compiled and remixed as a soundtrack for the art exhibition Systematic Chaos (on display during February 2010) by artist Kimmo Heikkilä.
The album title 1:4:9 refers to the album's playing time: 1 hour, 4 minutes and 9 seconds. The album is divided in three parts; Nightmusic (which consists of three tracks), Vanguard (five tracks) and Apogeum (one track).
1:4:9 is a fully ambient album, ideal for deeper listening.
The album is only available as a limited edition (100 copies) pressed CD and as a download.
Review extracts:
Steinar / Planet Origo: "...64 minutes of lyrical moods, ranging from drones and smooth pads to experimental sound sculptures [...] leans more towards solitary panoramas and the contemplative. Some parts are almost religiously uplifting, without being sacramental, while other parts are more ghostly [...] 1:4:9 is sprinkled with beautiful details, wide sounds in narrow structures and spooky layered effects [...] it is rich enough to demand an hour of your focused listening time, and get away with it." Rated 8 of 10.
